The 15 Best Muir Woods Tours from San Francisco

65 tours  ·  from $79

The canyon takes about half a day and every car needs a parking slot reserved in advance, so most visits happen on a coach that already holds one. The 15 below compare the half-day runs, the Sausalito pairings and the wine-country add-ons on price and how long you actually stand among the trees.

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 5,098 reviews · 5 to 8 hours (approx.) · from $91Our pick

Visit Muir Woods for 90 minutes among ancient coastal redwoods, then spend an hour in Sausalito. Gray Line guides such as Don, George, Jerry, and Judith provide commentary, while selected options add a bike ride or ferry return. Expect a compact, well-paced outing with limited free time.

“Our tour guide Judith from Germany was fabulous! We loved the hike in Muir Woods, it was beautiful. Sausalito is a fun little village with lots of shops and dining. The bus ride over and back the Golden Gate Bridge had fantastic views and we stopped for photos too. We were going to ride bikes that portion got canceled. However, when we saw how strong the winds were on the bridge and the bikers having a difficult time we were glad we were on the bus! I would recommend electric bikes if you’re going to do that.”

“A must do if you have the time and a great way to see what Sonoma and Napa Valley have to offer. First stop was Muir Woods, a whistle stop tour but you get there early and have the woods to yourself. We visited a good selection of small family run vineyards which were all different in their own right. Ru Vango was something else, the owners collection of art including their Salvador Dali collection was amazing. We also had the opportunity to walk amongst the vines whilst enjoying the wine and sampling some of the grapes. The lunch stop in Sonoma really good, a huge selection of restaurants, cafes…”
